This place is just the best Chinese spot around. The service is always extremely friendly and accommodating and the food is fresh and hot every time, even with takeout. Get the Canaan special fish and wear a helmet, cause your mind will be blown.
Canaan Chinese Restaurant has 3 locations and I have been going to their Artesia/Cerritos location for over 10+ years! When I heard they popped up in Lomita/Torrance area, I had to check out if the flavors are the same. Results: 10/10 This spot is much smaller than their locations but perfect for a family night out! It has modern diner vibes and just get ready to eat! Everything on the menu is delicious and if you don't know what to order? Bonnie's Recs for 100% Happy Belly Time! - Steamed Soupy Dumplings (Pork or Chicken) - Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken - Garlic String Beans (w/ or w/o Chicken ir Ground Pork) - House Special Fish Filet - French Style Beef - Salt & Pepper Pork Chops - Walnut Shrimp - Steamed Rice Love the friendly service and if you drop by, don't forget to tell Bonnie recommended this spot! Also the manager is named Bonnie too! So it's guaranteed Bonnie delicious. This place is also great for takeout and they take catering orders too. Worth checking out for delicious Chinese Food! The spice factor is sparkling here. The fried factor is crunching here. We tried a plethora of dishes this time. Canaan Cafe does not disappoint.
Been here a couple of times and food is just spot-on. Servers friendly and attentive. The place is clean and homey. My first time here is with family. Six adult and two toddlers. They were very patient with our kids as our little girl being one year old would throw her food if she's not liking it or drop it unintentional. So, we did leave a mess. Definitely we compensated well as deserved. We had the braised beef noodle soup, very tender beef, I should say. Salt & Pepper Pork Chop, spiced up excellently. Honey walnut shrimp, a favorite. Green beans, a staple food for the family. So, should you try this place? Definitely.
Small place, nice decor, bright and cheery with the bright orange walls. Clean! This little hole in the wall has to be my new favorite for Beef noodle soup. Just need a snack get the popcorn chicken and milk tea boba. Stinky tofu is only for people who know what it is because there is no refunds, as I was told when ordering. lol
Our faves here are: Beef Noodle, Green Onion Pancakes, String Beans with pork, and Canaan Special Fried fish. Honorable mention: French Style Beef Filet Mignon and popcorn chicken. To me, the popcorn chicken had a gamey flavor, but my pickier son preferred this preparation. I'm used to popcorn chicken with a battered coating. The owners are really nice. Service is good. We always find parking.
The food was amazing. Found this spot Accidentally while looking for Chinese food to eat. They did not disappoint. The food is freshly cooked/ so be prepared to wait. The popcorn chicken was delish. Has a Thai basil taste to it. Will definitely be back.
If you're a Torrance/Lomita native, then you remember that this was the spot where Black Olive used to be. I'm excited to say that Canaan Cafe is such a great addition to this plaza and it needs to be added to your places to try in this area! Must gets are their French Style Beef Filet Mignon, Special Fish Filet, Siu Mai, and Popcorn Chicken! The fish fillet and filet mignon were SO tender and the dishes had a great balance of flavors! We also got their Honey Walnut Shrimp, Xiao Long Bao, Beef Braised Noodle Soup, and Wonton Noodle Soup which were all tasty as well. I was surprised that their boba was sweet and chewy, since I tend to avoid boba drinks at restaurants, but I would definitely get it again! The owner here is super friendly and you will definitely be getting a delicious experience when you come here! They serve great drinks such as their teas and iced drinks, and even beer and wine. Make sure to check this place out the next time you want affordable Chinese food in Southbay LA.
From Muodu to DimSum101 and now Canaan Cafe, I've been to all three restaurants at this one location and I must say Canaan is my favorite We came today for lunch at 11:30 and we were welcomed before we even stepped through the door. It was nice to be seated before the lunchtime crowd which started to trickle in about noontime. Thanks to fellow Yelpers I already knew what I wanted to order Stinky Tofu - of course it's not going to be the amount of stink one gets if you're in Taiwan but you can definitely smell it as the server is bringing the dish over. I really enjoyed it and the pickled cabbage was a great match Canaan Special Fish - it's delicious! I love spicy and I actually felt the dish was not spicy enough. The fish is flaky and the batter was not too heavy. Braised Beef Noodle - a must order at any Taiwanese establishment and this did not disappoint. The meat is so tender and the soup so flavorful Braised Pork on Rice - I know there are mixed reviews regarding this dish but I liked it. The pork and rice were very aromatic The noodles, rice, and fish dishes came out piping hot and we have so much left over that we can have it for dinner and lunch tomorrow I would define come back to try other dishes but I loved what we ordered today so much that I will likely order them again I hope Canaan Cafe sticks around for a while.
